Notifications

BuildOnce tells you about things that happen in your workspaces — a render that failed, a teammate who joined, an invoice that didn't go through — through two channels: in-app (the bell and the notifications page) and email. There's no separate API for any of this; it's part of the regular dashboard session.

In-app inbox

The bell shows your unread count and stays live while you have the dashboard open — new notifications and read-state changes (including from another tab) arrive over a live connection, not polling. The notifications page lists every notification across all your workspaces, newest first, filterable by read state and category, with mark-read and mark-all-read actions.

ParamTypeNotes
status"all" | "unread"Filters the inbox list.
categorystringNarrows to one notification category, e.g. billing or renders.
qstringCase-insensitive search on title or body (up to 100 chars).
page / limitnumberPagination, like any other list endpoint.

Email

Not every notification sends an email — most stay in-app only. Email is reserved for things worth leaving the dashboard open for: billing issues, security events (a new API key, a password change), a failed render or template import, a social post that failed to publish, and accepted invitations.

Preferences

Each notification type can be switched on or off independently for the in-app and email channels from Preferences. A handful of types are critical and can't be turned off on either channel — things you need to see even if you've muted everything else: a failed payment, running out of credits, your password changing, an API key being created or revoked, and a social connection expiring.

Turning a type off in Preferences is the one toggle that always works, on both channels. It's the place to go if an unsubscribe link (below) didn't cover what you wanted, or if you want in-app notifications off too, not just email.

Unsubscribing from an email

Every non-critical notification email carries a one-click unsubscribe link (and the headers mail clients look for to show their own unsubscribe button). Using it switches off just that one notification type's email — it never touches the in-app channel, and never touches a critical type, since those can't be switched off at all.

The unsubscribe link takes effect as soon as it's opened — it doesn't ask for confirmation first. If you change your mind, switch that type's email back on from Preferences; the link itself has no undo.
